- I have the GVC Maxtech XM288I which I have had installed for about 3 months now.
- It was a struggle initially getting it working correctly under W95 but it's
- purring now.
-
- Maxtech's tele # for tech support is (201)586-8686. The phonemail choices
- encourage you to get tech support from the vendor you purchased from but
- pressing zero gets you through to an operator who takes a message and you get a
- call back. They helped me get the correct IRQ setting and driver for the XM288I.
-
- Maxtech's web site is http://www.maxcorp.com/ where you can get the correct
- drivers if that's what you need.
-
- One thing's for sure - If you're running W95 you don't want to use the generic
- W95 unimodem driver. It won't allow you to do compression at all - very slow.
- The recomended init. string is AT&F and that's all you should need according to
- Maxtech. &F resets the modem to factory settings instead of what W95 sets and is
- working fine for me. I'm consistently able to D/L files through Netscape at 3300
- to 3400 BPS which is about all I can expect.
-
- Hope this helps.
