  19. I have the GVC Maxtech XM288I which I have had installed for about 3 months now.
  20. It was a struggle initially getting it working correctly under W95 but it's
  21. purring now.

  23. Maxtech's tele # for tech support is (201)586-8686. The phonemail choices
  24. encourage you to get tech support from the vendor you purchased from but
  25. pressing zero gets you through to an operator who takes a message and you get a
  26. call back. They helped me get the correct IRQ setting and driver for the XM288I.

  29. drivers if that's what you need.

  31. One thing's for sure - If you're running W95 you don't want to use the generic
  32. W95 unimodem driver. It won't allow you to do compression at all - very slow.
  33. The recomended init. string is AT&F and that's all you should need according to
  34. Maxtech. &F resets the modem to factory settings instead of what W95 sets and is
  35. working fine for me. I'm consistently able to D/L files through Netscape at 3300
  36. to 3400 BPS which is about all I can expect.
